How this PPT to Word Converter — Convert PowerPoint to DOCX Free works

PowerPoint PPTX files are ZIP archives containing XML files for each slide. This tool unzips your presentation in the browser, reads the slide XML, extracts all text content, and writes it into a Word DOCX document you can download.

The extraction uses JSZip to open the PPTX archive and locate the slide XML files under the ppt/slides/ folder. Each slide file contains XML elements that hold text runs inside shape nodes. The tool pulls the text from those elements in reading order — title first, then body text — and treats each slide as a new section in the output document. A slide heading marks each section so the Word document stays organized. The DOCX file is then assembled using the docx JavaScript library, which writes a valid .docx binary. The output opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer, or any standard word processor. No file leaves your computer during this process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this tool extract from the PowerPoint file?
The tool extracts all text content from each slide — including title text and body text from all text boxes and shapes. The text is organized slide-by-slide in the output Word document.
Does the Word document preserve the original slide formatting?
The output is plain text structured by slide. Fonts, colors, layouts, images, and design elements from the presentation are not included — only the text content is extracted.
Can I open the output .docx file in Google Docs?
Yes. The output is a standard .docx file that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice Writer, Apple Pages, and all other major word processors.
Does the tool work with .ppt files (older format)?
The tool is designed for .pptx files, which is the modern XML-based format. Older .ppt files (binary format) are not supported. Save your presentation as .pptx in PowerPoint before converting.
Is my PowerPoint file sent to a server?
No. All extraction and conversion happens in your browser using JSZip and the docx library. Your file never leaves your device.
Will images and charts from my slides be included?
No. Only text content is extracted. Images, charts, tables, SmartArt, and embedded objects are not included in the Word output.
How are the slides organized in the Word document?
Each slide becomes a labeled section in the Word document. A heading like "Slide 1", "Slide 2", etc. marks where each slide starts, followed by the text from that slide.
Can I use this to extract speaker notes from the presentation?
Currently, the tool extracts slide text only. Speaker notes stored in the notes pane are not included in the output. This may be added in a future update.
What happens if a slide has no text?
If a slide contains no text elements — for example, an image-only slide — that slide still appears as a heading in the Word document but with no body content below it.
How large can the PPTX file be?
There is no enforced size limit. Performance depends on the number of slides and the size of embedded media in the PPTX archive. Most presentations convert within a few seconds.
Does the tool handle PPTX files created by Google Slides or LibreOffice?
Yes. PPTX is an open standard. Presentations exported from Google Slides, LibreOffice Impress, Keynote, or other tools in PPTX format will convert normally.
Is there a maximum number of slides supported?
There is no hard limit on slide count. Presentations with hundreds of slides will produce a longer Word document but should still convert within your browser without issues.
