Random Minecraft seed generator for Java and Bedrock

A Minecraft seed is the number the game uses to build your world. The same seed gives the same terrain and biomes every time, so a seed is how you share a world or start a fresh one. This Minecraft seed generator gives you a random seed in one click, in the size your version accepts.

Use Random for a fresh number, Curated for a short list of seeds with notes on what to look for, or Seed tools to see what number a word or phrase becomes. Nothing is sent to a server, and saved seeds stay in your browser.

Pick the seed generator that fits your game

  • Random Minecraft seed generator

Random mode draws a whole number with your browser’s cryptographic random generator. Java accepts any number from −9,223,372,036,854,775,808 to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, which gives 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 possible worlds.

  • Minecraft seed generator for Bedrock

Bedrock has taken 64-bit seeds since 1.18.30 and builds the same terrain and biomes as Java from the same seed. Structures, caves and mob spawns still differ between the editions. Older Bedrock and console versions only take 32-bit seeds, so choose 32-bit for them.

  • Minecraft seed generator for Java

Java Edition takes the full 64-bit range, so leave Random on 64-bit. Every number in that range is a valid seed, and 32-bit seeds work in Java too.

  • Text to seed converter

A word or phrase is also a valid seed. Java turns text into a number with String.hashCode(), which reaches only 4,294,967,296 worlds instead of 18,446,744,073,709,551,616. Seed tools shows the exact number your text becomes, so you can use it in Bedrock as well.

  • Curated Minecraft seeds

15 seeds with a short note on what to look for and the version they need. World generation changes between versions and the notes have not been re-checked against every release, so preview a seed on a seed map before you build.

How to use a Minecraft seed

Java Edition

  1. Open Singleplayer and choose Create New World.
  2. Open the world settings that include the Seed field (the World tab, or the extra world options in older versions).
  3. Paste the seed, then choose Create New World.

Bedrock Edition

  1. Open Play and create a new world.
  2. Scroll down to the Seed field.
  3. Paste the seed and choose Create.

Leave the Seed field empty and Minecraft picks a random seed for you. That is fine for a one-off world, but you will need the seed later if you want to share the world or rebuild it.

How to find the seed of an existing world

Already playing a world you like? You can read its seed and reuse it.

Java Edition
Type /seed in chat. It works in singleplayer even with cheats off.
Bedrock Edition
Open the world’s Edit World screen. The seed is shown there and can be copied.
Text seeds
If you typed a word, the seed is its hash number. Paste your word into Seed tools to see it.

What changes the world a seed builds

Game version
Whenever Mojang changes world generation, usually by adding biomes, the same seed can build different terrain. Use the version listed with a curated seed and check any other seed on a seed map for your version.
Java or Bedrock
Terrain and biomes match between the editions for 64-bit seeds, but structures, caves and mob spawns do not. A village you see on a Java seed map can be somewhere else in Bedrock.
Numbers or text
Numbers inside the 64-bit range are used as typed. Text, and numbers too large to fit, go through Java’s hash function and reach a smaller set of worlds.
Seed size
64-bit seeds need Java or Bedrock 1.18.30 or newer. 32-bit seeds fit every version.

Why use this seed generator

Real randomness

Seeds come from the cryptographic random generator built into your browser, not Math.random. Every number in the chosen range is equally likely.

Nothing leaves your browser

No account, no upload, no server. Saved seeds live in your browser’s local storage.

Save what you like

Save any seed and it is still there next visit. Copy it in one click, or select the number by hand if your browser blocks the clipboard.

Works on every screen

Long seeds stay on one line on phones, and every control can be used with a keyboard.

How this Minecraft Seed Generator works

Random mode asks your browser’s cryptographic random number generator for two 32-bit values and joins them into one signed 64-bit whole number, the range Minecraft Java accepts. The 32-bit option keeps a single value, for older Bedrock and console versions.

Curated mode picks from a short built-in list and does not repeat a seed until every seed in the chosen category has been shown.

Seed tools follows the rule Minecraft Java uses for text: digits with an optional leading plus or minus sign inside the 64-bit range are used as typed, and anything else goes through Java’s String.hashCode() to make a 32-bit number.

Everything runs in your browser with client-side JavaScript. No account is needed, no seed is sent anywhere, and saved seeds stay in your browser’s local storage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Minecraft seeds work on both Java and Bedrock?
Yes for terrain and biomes. Since Bedrock 1.18.30 both editions use 64-bit seeds and build the same terrain and biomes from the same seed. Structures, caves and mob spawns still differ. Older Bedrock versions only accept 32-bit seeds.
How does the random Minecraft seed generator work?
Your browser’s cryptographic random generator picks a whole number in the size you choose: 64-bit for Java and current Bedrock, 32-bit for older Bedrock. Nothing is sent to a server and no account is needed.
Is this an AI Minecraft seed generator?
No. It uses your browser’s random number generator, not AI. Neither can see the world a seed builds, so preview a seed on a seed map before you commit to it.
Can a Minecraft seed be a word?
Yes. Java turns text into a number with String.hashCode(), so a word reaches only 4,294,967,296 worlds instead of 18,446,744,073,709,551,616. Type it into Seed tools to see the number, and paste that number into Bedrock.
How many Minecraft seeds are there?
A numeric seed can be any whole number from −9,223,372,036,854,775,808 to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, which is 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 possible worlds.
What are the curated seeds?
A short list of 15 seeds with a note on what to look for and the minimum version. World generation changes between versions and the notes have not been re-checked against every release, so preview a seed before you build.
Why does my seed look different in a new version?
Whenever Mojang changes world generation, usually by adding biomes, the same seed can build different terrain. Play the version a seed was made for, or check it on a seed map for your version.
Does entering a seed disable achievements in Bedrock?
No. A custom seed does not turn achievements off. Enabling cheats, experimental features or add-ons does.
How do I find the seed of my current world?
In Java, type /seed in chat; it works in singleplayer even with cheats off. In Bedrock, open the world’s Edit World screen, where the seed can be copied.
