How to Read Your Touch Test Results
- A cell never fills: clean the screen, remove any screen protector, and retry. If the same spot stays empty, that part of the digitizer is likely damaged.
- Lines break or jump: occasional small jitter is normal. Repeated gaps in the same area, or strokes that leap across the screen, point to a failing digitizer or a loose display cable.
- Fewer touch points than expected: most phones track 5 to 10 fingers and most tablets track 10. A lower count can be a hardware limit rather than a fault, so compare against your device's specifications first.
- Markers appear on their own: ghost touches are commonly caused by moisture, a damaged protector, a worn charging cable, or a faulty digitizer. Dry and clean the screen, unplug the charger, and test again.
- Edges respond poorly: some missed touches near the very edge come from palm rejection built into the operating system. Consistent dead strips along one edge, however, usually mean physical damage.
This test reads the touch events your browser receives. It cannot measure hardware sampling rate in hertz, repair a digitizer, or bypass operating system gestures reserved for screen edges.
How this Touch Screen Test works
This tool reads your screen through pointer events, the browser standard that reports the position and identity of every finger touching the display. The test surface is an HTML canvas element with the touch-action CSS property set to none, which stops the browser from turning your swipes into scrolling or zooming while a test runs. In dead zone grid mode, the canvas is divided into 44-pixel cells. Every pointer position is mapped to a cell through its coordinates, and the cell is painted green the first time it registers a touch. Because a fast swipe can jump over cells between two reported positions, the tool interpolates extra points along the path so the trail stays continuous. Coverage is the share of painted cells out of the total. Free draw mode connects the consecutive positions of each pointer with line segments, which makes tracking dropouts visible as gaps or jumps in the stroke. Multi-touch mode keeps a map of active pointer IDs and redraws a numbered, colored marker for each one on every update, while a counter records the highest number of simultaneous touches seen. The start button requests full screen through the Fullscreen API, with a fixed-viewport fallback for iPhones and restricted browsers. All touch data is processed on the local canvas and discarded when you reset or close the page — nothing is sent anywhere.
