Zalgo text generator for glitch, cursed and creepy text
This tool adds Unicode combining marks to your letters. The marks stack above, through and below each letter, so plain words look corrupted, cursed or creepy. The result is real text, so you can copy it and paste it into a chat, a post, a bio, a caption or a game, wherever the app accepts Unicode.
The name Zalgo comes from a 2004 internet creepypasta about an eldritch figure. The look spread through memes and horror posts, and people now use it for any text that should look broken, hacked or haunted. Writers also use a light version to show a damaged message in a story.
Glitch text styles
Each preset sets the most marks above, through and below the letters, and the share of letters it touches. Pick one, then change any setting.

What each setting does
The settings work together. The result updates on every change, and the same text with the same settings always gives the same result.

How glitch text works
Unicode has a block of combining characters, from U+0300 to U+036F, made to add accents to letters. An e followed by an acute accent mark shows as é. A computer stores the mark as its own character after the letter, and the font draws it on top. Nothing in the text format stops many marks from following one letter, so a generator can stack dozens.
The stack of marks creates the effect, and it takes up room. Combining marks usually add to the character count, so a short name can grow several times longer. Fonts also draw the marks in different ways, so the same text can look different on a phone, on a laptop and in a game.
Where glitch text works
Chats and social posts
Most chat and social apps accept it, because it is plain Unicode text. Some apps give each line a fixed height, so tall stacks get cut or cover the line above. Test one short line first.
Games
Games draw text with their own fonts and filters. Roblox may filter text from a generator, and Minecraft Java Edition has a known problem with combining marks. Check inside the game before you rely on it.
Forms and usernames
Email addresses and domain names usually reject combining marks, and many username and sign-up fields strip or refuse them. Keep glitch text out of passwords.
Length limits for glitch text
Every mark counts toward the limit, so glitch text runs out of room fast. Choose an app under Fit to a length limit and the tool trims the marks until the text fits.

Apps change these limits from time to time, so check the app if it refuses your text.
Remove glitch text and Zalgo text
To turn glitch text back into normal text, open the Remove glitch marks tab and paste it in. The tool deletes the combining marks and keeps the letters, so you can read the text and copy it.
It removes marks from the Unicode blocks that generators use. A letter written as a plain letter plus a separate accent loses its accent too. Letters that have the accent built in, such as é and ñ, stay as they are.
Use glitch text with care
Keep key details plain
Screen readers and search engines may handle glitch text poorly. Write contact details, prices and links in normal text.
Start light
Very tall stacks have slowed or crashed some apps in the past. Send a Light or Readable version first if the text goes to other people’s devices.
Check the rules
Some servers and sites remove glitch text. Read the rules before you post it.
How the glitch text generator works
The generator splits your text into letters and keeps any marks that already belong to each letter. It then picks combining marks from three groups: marks that sit above a letter, marks that cross it and marks that hang below it. A fixed random seed decides which marks each letter gets, so the text does not jump when you move a slider, and Shuffle picks a new seed. Spaces and emoji are left alone. When you choose a length limit, the tool counts the result the way that app counts it and trims the marks until the text fits. The Remove glitch marks tab deletes the marks again. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
