Some want to get inspired by watching fitness content, while others prefer seeing their favorite streamer break another keyboard over a stupid game.

We all have our preferences, and YouTube serves us what we want. What Is YouTube Autoplay? Is It Enabled For All User Accounts?

Autoplay, as the word suggests, is a feature where a video in a queue or a list starts playing by itself unless the user stops it from doing so.

Youtube boasts something similar as one of its features as well. Youtube’s autoplay automatically begins to play the following video, often related to the current video that just stopped playing. Although it provides a ‘Cancel’ button, this feature still annoys many users.

The autoplay feature of Youtube is automatically disabled for user accounts under 18 and is also automatically enabled for those above 18. There’s one more thing to note. Autoplay settings may differ for different devices, even if the same account is logged into those devices.

For example, you can have Youtube autoplay set to disabled on your laptop and enabled on your smartphone. Let’s now look at the approach to stop autoplay on Youtube.

In this section, we’ll learn how to turn off or disable the autoplay feature on Youtube. We already know that the autoplay feature stays disabled automatically for users between 13-17 years, and it is automatically turned on for users over 18.

It is also to be noted that accounts under parental supervision may not have the feature for toggling the autoplay on/off.

Aside from that, Youtube automatically turns off auto-playing videos after 30 minutes if the device is connected to the internet via a mobile network.

This duration extends to 4 hours if the device is connected to Wi-Fi. With all that information covered, let’s now take a look at what we can do to turn off the autoplay feature on Youtube:

  1. Open the Youtube application on your smartphone (or log into Youtube if you’re on a computer).
  2. Click on your account’s profile picture in the top right corner of the mobile. For computer users, it should be on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. Navigate to Settings, and click on it.
  4. Find and click on the Auto-play option.
  5. Click the toggle next to the Auto-play next video option to turn the autoplay feature on Youtube on or off.

That’s it. Easy, right? However, don’t forget that you might have to check all the autoplay features if your Youtube account is logged into multiple devices simultaneously.

How To Stop the Muted Autoplay in the YouTube Feed?

You may have noticed that some videos start playing themselves while staying in their thumbnails without any sound when you hover your cursor over them for some time.

This is the muted autoplay feature introduced by Youtube some time ago. Its purpose is to display the information inside the video to judge whether you want to watch it without actually opening it. If you wish to disable it as well, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Open Settings on your Youtube application using the same steps mentioned above.
  2. Find and click on the General option.
  3. Look for the Playback in feeds option and click on it.
  4. Click on off.

Doing so will stop Youtube from automatically running muted videos when you scroll through your feed.

Conclusion

It is reassuring that Youtube is constantly trying new features to improve its users’ experience. It is to be expected that not everyone is a fan of all features. Autoplay is one such feature that has been quite debatable since its introduction.

However, it is just easier to turn it off rather than engage in debates over its usefulness, right? That’s precisely why we listed the steps needed to do here, and we hope that this article was of help to you.
